蟲(chóng)膠是由生長(zhǎng)在蟲(chóng)膠樹(shù)上的蟲(chóng)膠昆蟲(chóng)分泌的。蟲(chóng)膠的主要產(chǎn)品有：

片紫膠，彩色紫膠，漂白紫膠和紫膠紅色素。

紫膠的主要成分是樹(shù)脂，紫膠樹(shù)脂是糊粉酸和殼腦酸的天然聚合物。此外，還含有蠟質(zhì)、色素和其它水溶物等。各組分的含量隨寄主樹(shù)、產(chǎn)地、季節(jié)的不同而有所變化。
